Last night, the bin Laden video was aired on the news. Today, the news reports that a majority of Arabs around the world believe the video is a fake, propaganda concocted by the U.S. government. For the sake of argument, let’s assume the video is a fake. Does it matter? Bin Laden has already stated in his comments he made to al Jazeera that the attacks were justified. That is the point at which he becomes the enemy.
It is not only the people who actively carry out the attacks who pose a threat to our national security. It is the people who surround them that enable their recruitment and brainwashing by looking the other way. Eliminating only the terrorists themselves will not make us safe. In fact, we will never truly be safe from terrorism until we cleanse the cesspools of misinformation in which the memes of hatred for the West are bred. This means shutting down the madrassas that urge jihad against us, the Infidels. This means shutting down the kindergartens in Palestinian territories that teach five-year old kids how to strap bombs to themselves and detonate them.
Hopefully, the nations in which these institutions run will have the political will to shut them down. Because, if they don’t, we will have no choice but to do it for them. Until these institutions are shut down, each one of us is marked for murder. As bin Laden said of the people in the World Trade Center, “they are not innocents, they are the enemy.”
